GMO-Free Soy Wax. Hand-Poured in London.

The Scent

Shinrin Yoku, is an earthy blend of cedarwood, oakmoss and black pepper that creates a natural calming atmosphere in which to escape to.

Shinrin Yoku or “forest bathing”, is a Japanese ritual that involves taking in the forest atmosphere. It is proven to lower heart rate, reduce stress, boost the immune system and improve your overall wellbeing.

The Ethics

Earl Of East hand pour their candles in their studio in East London. The soy itself is GMO-free and comes from the USA and Europe (one of the problems with soy production has been deforestation in South America). The soy is then manufactured into soy wax in the UK. Their apothecary jars are also made in the UK by a family business outside of London.

Soy wax also provides a more environmentally friendly alternative to paraffin wax candles, they are also better for health as fumes from paraffin wax candles can be toxic.

Ethical Developments

Currently, Earl Of East do not know about the conditions and pay of those working in the European and US soy fields. Although the US and parts of Europe would be considered low risk for human rights exploitation, it would provide more assurance of conditions to have a third-party certification. Furthermore, knowing the European countries where the soy is produced, would help determine whether they are high risk areas or not.
