THE ETHICS

The Brand Story

Ed started Jollie’s after becoming uneasy about walking past people sleeping rough and not knowing what to do. After chatting to visitors at a local Shelter, he saw a need he could help with. Socks.

Fresh socks might not seem like a life-changer, but for those walking the streets, day and night foot health is essential. It was clear that out of all of the clothing donations given to shelters, socks were the most needed but least donated.

So Ed designed some socks, found a friendly factory and spent his student loan on the first run of stock. He started selling to anyone interested. And for every pair he sold, he donated a pair to a shelter.

That was 2012. They’ve now donated thousands of pairs of socks to over 50 shelter’s nation-wide.

Donating Socks

Jollie’s supports charities tackling homelessness by giving a pair of hardy socks for every pair of socks purchased. Socks bought at Found Hea supports a homeless shelter in Bristol.

The Factory

These socks are made in Portugal near Porto. Ed, Jollie’s founder has personally visited the factory. The factory is certified by both GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) and SA8000, two independent certifications which assess the factory against environmental and social criteria. We were pleased to read in the SA8000 audit that they pay workers nearly double the calculated Basic Need Wage.

Organic Cotton

Organic Cotton is better for the soil, the farmers and their families because of the damage that can be caused by chemicals used in conventional cotton production. These socks are made with GOTS certified organic cotton, an independent certification verifying the organic content of the fabric.
